May 17 & 18 is the scheduled dates for our Spring Trail Ride. The bridge will not be replaced by then but we intend to have all the trails open and rideable! It may be a little inconvenient but the club is committed to put on the best trail ride we can without a bridge! Hope to see you there! |

Sounds great, will we have to trailer from one side to the other or will only one side be open? |

Plans are still being developed but right now all registration, sound check, etc. are planned to take place at the big West Assembly campground, just like last spring. For those that want to ride the more technical trails around the old Central Campground, they will need to trailer over there unless they're riding a plated ds bike. It's not the best situation but until the bridge is repaired, it's all we can do. Money has been released but design, bid, and then construction schedules still need to be put in place. The GECC will be meeting with the MN DNR at our next monthly meeting so more details available in mid-March. We do plan to open all trails again although the calendar has us in the woods sooner so dry weather will be needed for some of the bottoms. We're getting quite a bit of snow but how it melts will be the most important factor. Only 3 months to go! |

Right now it looks wet but we've been working on the trails getting ready for our Spring Trail Ride. The bottoms were drying but the past rains will delay that process a little. Lots of trees down and some logging in a couple areas so chainsaw work is primarily what we've been up to. The DNR met with us on Monday and we're working closer than ever with them. The bridge is in design phase but until a contract is let, schedules don't exist although the target is late fall 2008. Inconvenient for us but not impossible. |

has it been decided whether or not we will be doing pre registration on the internet for those who want to attend the trail ride? |

There's no need to pre-register for the trail ride this spirng. Just show up like prior years at the large campground, West Assembly, and all administrative activities will take place there. The bridge is still out and won't be done until late fall '08 but we're working hard to get all trails open in time. The wet spring has delayed our work on the bottoms but we're optimistic they'll dry in time. The plan is for a normal trail ride without the bridge. |

The only trail ride the GECC canceled, was last fall after the flood destroyed the bridge over the Zumbro River. The DNR had closed the entire facility for a while but it was opened in time for the trail ride. However the damage done to trails and lack of trail work time prevented us from having a trail ride last fall. It is possible the trail ride will be canceled due to weather but it is very, very unlikely. We've had muddy and rainy trail rides in the past but hopefully we will have better weather this spring. We'll keep the website current and post any changes as quickly as possible. Based on trail conditions right now and the forecast for the next week, I'm confident that we will have a trail ride this spring on schedule and on good trails. Last Monday the bottoms were very rideable as we cleared lots more trees from the trails. Upper trails are in very good condition as the DNR has done lots of work on them late last fall and this spring. I look forward to seeing everyone next week at our trail ride! |

Just checking in to see how everything is shaping up for this weekend. It's a 4 hour drive for us and want to make sure it's good to go.
will there be more trails open because the bridge is out? |

EJensen - I'm not sure if Milo is available to answer your question, I think he is camping at Theilman all week, so I'll answer for him.
To my knowledge all of the trails are good to go with the exception of one section of river bottoms, on the east side, which was very wet due to spring flooding. All of the other trails on the east and west side have been cleared, ridden and will be arrowed on Friday. With the recent trend of weather the trails should be in excellent riding condition. |

Jim's right, everything has been ridden, cleared, and ready for the weekend except for one bottoms trail. We're going to give that trail as much drying time as we can and open as much as possible by this weekend. Things have really dried nicely this week and the DNR has also been working on hauling gravel to fix problems so it's looking great for the trail ride. Hope to see you there! |

Thanks for the info guys! There are 4 of us headed up from Iowa. Where can we get some firewood? We've never had much luck finding the wood that was for sale. |

There's a sign right at Theilman stating firewood for sale and he's certified by the MN DNR. I'll check on it to make sure it can be easily found. It's on the other street instead of the one headed back to the campground. Ask at the little bar if nothing else. Kwik Trips all sell certified firewood also. Cutting firewood in the state forest is also allowed and there's a lot of it either along the road leading into camp or near the campground. Forecast is good, trails are ready, and so am I! |
