I was driving to Taylors Falls on HWY 8 this Sunday and saw 40 or more guys/gals/kids out on the ice on their bikes. Of course I had to stop and check it out. They had a 1.6 mile loop with a kiddie loop and nice oval for the big bikes. There were some 450's, some 2 smokes, a handful of ttr125s, a couple tiny 4 wheelers and 3 or 4 pw50's. There was even a guy out on an old trials bike. A guy named "Shaggy" (I think?) was the organizer and he the lives right there on the lake. Lots of families, a big bonfire and even a home-made ice/snow melter that smoothed out the track. Similar to what they use to dry the tracks at auto races. It had a helicoptor engine powering it. Pretty cool. The guy I talked with said that people were out the most weekends and had a 3 hour endurance race coming up. Seemed like anyone was welcome to come up and run what ya brung. |

sunday was a great ride There was 21 bikes and a great course. I don't know if anything could top a helicopter melter for course grooming but we had a golf cart with a plow and a bobcat with a hydrolic sweeper... I have never seen ice so clean |

How about sharing some experience with the rest of us ice newbies? How long should the screws be, front and back the same? Is a liner needed? How many screws per tire? Anything else that would help someone when studding up tires for the first time? Inquiring minds want to know!!! |
